Port Houston is a 25-mile-long complex that provides more than 190 private and public industrial docks along the 52-mile-long Houston Ship Channel. Eight public terminals are owned, operated, managed or leased by the Port of Houston, including general cargo terminals at Turn Basin, Care, Jacintoport, Woodhouse, and Barbours Cut and Bayport container terminals. They are the largest port on the Gulf Coast and the largest port in Texas. The port played an important role in the development of Houston as an international trade center. It has billions of petrochemical complexes, the largest in the United States and the second largest in the world. Transportation services on all major trade routes connect Houston to the global international market. The ship channel also intersects with a very busy barge transportation line, the Gulf Inland Channel.For employees, Port Houston provides a range of medical, dental and vision care services.
