Job Description

  • Create value for PPV's portfolio companies, ensuring that we are creating the optimal experience for their relationship with PayPal, while also facilitating commercial value to PayPal

  • Work with PPV’s 25+ (and growing) portfolio companies on identifying areas of opportunity to collaborate and learn from with PayPal. This could entail workshops, product development or cross-portfolio collaboration opportunities

  • Serve as the business development arm for PPV and develop, lead, champion internally, negotiate and execute on end-to-end commercial deals with portfolio companies including distribution deals, vendor agreements, standard PayPal processing deals, etc.

  • Contribute thought leadership and expertise to portfolio companies by sitting on boards and holding regular calls / meetings with company CEOs

  • Host & organize PPV’s annual portfolio summit, where all CEOs from the portfolio are invited to attend a 2-day session to learn from internal PayPal and external leaders in fintech / commerce, ecosystem partners, and each other

  • Responsible for organizing & managing PPV’s internal Advisor Network and ensuring portfolio companies are finding ways to easily leverage this differentiated resource. The Advisor Network is a group of 40 subject matter experts from across PayPal (e.g. PR, technical architecture, cybersecurity, real estate etc.) who have agreed to dedicate time to our portfolio. The Operating Partner should ensure that portfolio companies are aware of this resource and are getting value from it

  • Help build PPV’s external brand image and reputation by building a best-in-class operating program and relationship with portfolio companies

  • Help respond to ad hoc requests from portfolio companies, including introductions to people / companies in our network, representation at events, or other requests. The Operating Partner will ensure that these requests are handled promptly

  • Deliver strategic learnings and market sensing value back to PayPal

  • This role will be responsible for helping designing internal programs, collateral and events to ensure that PayPal leaders get the benefits of the learnings from our investment and portfolio activity

  • On a quarterly basis, the operating partner along with other PPV leaders, should brief senior leaders from PayPal's Consumer, Merchant, Credit, Commerce and Risk / Compliance teams to ensure that they are aware of the latest trends within the startup ecosystem from our portfolio companies, investment pipeline, and broader intelligence

  • The Operating Partner will also lead the Ventures team in their creation of a regular PPV Reports on the state of the venture ecosystem as well as our portfolio and disseminate it to a select group of VP+ at PayPal

  • Help Ventures team identify complementary investment themes to PayPal's strategy

  • The Operating Partner will be responsible for developing relationships with senior leaders at PayPal in order to help the Ventures team understand their respective roadmaps / goals and where our investments could help advance or inform their thinking

  • Run the day-to-day operations of the fund

  • Work with finance, legal, tax and other internal teams regarding the operations of the fund, including monthly / quarterly FP&A reporting

  • Organize and host bi-weekly diligence syncs with broader diligence team from legal, tax, finance, InfoSec, architecture, compliance and comms

  • Work with HR on hiring and compensation planning for the broader Ventures team

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience in a combination of Business Development, Operating, Venture, and / or product roles at technology companies

  • Extremely strong written and oral communication skills

  • Background in successfully negotiating complex commercial partnership deals, with evidence of these deals driving material value

  • Experience in the Payments, FinTech, and / or Commerce Enablement space

  • Ability to get disparate groups of people to work on shared goals, even without direct oversight / reporting of any of the involved parties

  • Capable of managing many separate workstreams on multiple initiatives at the same time

  • Bonus points for technical background and experience at startups
