JOB SUMMARY:# The Pre-Registration Specialist is responsible for insuring that all patient scheduled visits are pre-registered and accounts are appropriately certified / authorized in advance of the service date, gathering all required information to ensure financial reimbursement. The Pre-Registration Specialist is also responsible for communicating payment policies and patient education prior to services and preparing and gathering necessary forms for payment and compliance. The Pre-Registration Specialist serves as a resource for the facility on-site receptionist. # ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES # # Primarily responsible for pre-registering of new and returning patients via multiline phones for visits within the System ensuring that all required elements are gathered to ensure payment for the service provided. # # Ensure compliance with reporting related to demographics and federal and state requirements. # # Read and appropriately follow scripting when speaking with a patient. # # Contacts insurance companies or employer groups to determine eligibility and benefits for necessary services. # # Make necessary contacts with providers, insurers or patients to follow up if there are insurance issues in order to obtain financial resolution and guarantee payment on account. # # Obtain necessary clinical documentation to use in the pre-certification process. # # Contact payors and effectively communicate clinical information to obtain authorization for requested services. # # Document referrals/authorizations/pre-certifications in appropriate systems. # # Coordinates follow-up to insure all payor requirements are met and payment is ensured.# # # Maintains current knowledge of payor payment provisions and regulations to ensure correct data is gathered and documented. # # Provides financial information to patients which includes patient financial obligations, estimated costs of services, billing practices and establishing payment arrangements. # # Explain financial assistance programs such as Medicaid, Mercy Community Care and other community assistance. # # Collects co-pays, deductible and other out of pocket expenses via phone and/or ensure patient understands their financial obligation and arrange for payment at the time of visit.# # # Document activity within patient accounting systems. # # Performs cashiering functions/online payment posting within billing systems. Processes payments and deposits by adhering to the system#s Cash Handling Policy. # # Demonstrates an understanding and follows patient confidentiality policies. # # Participates in educational programs to meet mandatory requirements and identified needs with regard to position and personal growth. # AGE OF PATIENT POPULATION ######## All ages, including other physician offices, and other hospital/clinical personnel.############################## # OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE OSHA Exposure Category C which means no employees in the specific job classification have occupational exposure. # COMPETENCIES Quality- Follows policies and procedures. Cost - Conserves organization resources. # EDUCATION, TRAINING, # EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED required; at least two years related experience in registration. Knowledge of third party payor requirements. Basic knowledge of medical terminology. Basic knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding preferred. Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette. # ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Passing the Driver#s License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring) Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or Illinois Health Care Workers Background Check Must be able to follow written/oral instructions. # INFORMATION ACCESS Partner may access patient care information needed to perform their job duties.# Partner may access financial data. # OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES ################################################ Excellent oral communication skills/organizational skills Ability to handle stress and problem solve Computer experience preferred Knowledge of HBO # PPP desirable Able to work independently # SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Pre-Registration includes verifying of insurance by RTE, Website or calling; verifying benefits for 1st OB patients and providing notification to clinics of expired or Out of Network Insurance plans.
