This position is grant-funded and will work closely with individual members of the Alternative Route leadership team and other designated parties.This position is responsible for managing Easterns Alternative Route Program (Transition to Teaching) which is designed for career changers and for individuals already working in the school system who want to transition to full-time teaching.The position is responsible for all phases of the program, including recruiting students, overseeing admissions, student retention, and transitioning students into their first teaching assignments post-graduation.Job SummaryThis full time exempt position is responsible for managing Easterns Alternative Route Program (Transition to Teaching) which is designed for career changers and for individuals already working in the school system who want to transition to full-time teaching. Participants who hold a bachelors degree and who desire to pursue a career in teaching are also eligible to participate in Alt Route.This position is responsible for all phases of the program, including recruiting students, overseeing admissions, student retention, and transitioning students into their first teaching assignments post-graduation. Alt-Route students will have flexible course options and routes through the program. They may also require additional supports for success as compared to more traditional undergraduate and post-bac candidates.Screening will begin on 08/13/18. If funding is available beyond this date the position may be extended.Required QualificationsDegree from an accredited institution that meets at least one of the following criteria:Masters in EducationBachelors in Education plus a Masters in another fieldBA/BS and Masters in other fields plus K-12 teacher or principal certificationExperience as a teacher or administrator in a K-12 system; prefer experience within Washington State gained within the past five yearsDemonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, external parties from diverse backgrounds, including diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgroundsDemonstrated successful experience overseeing program operationsDemonstrated skills in communications, problem solving, risk management, collaboration, planning, administration, and organizationMust have a valid Drivers License and access to a personal vehicle for occasional local travel to meetings as neededDemonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.Preferred QualificationsUniversity, college or professional teaching, administrative or professional training experienceA record of successfully leading a program within a complex, multifaceted organizationTeaching experience with diverse populations and/or in rural settingsKnowledge of database or data systems software, use, management, and reportingOther Skills and AbilitiesFlexibilityCollaborationCommunicationTeamworkTime ManagementAttention to DetailWork ScheduleTypically 8am 5pm, but may be required to work evenings and/or weekends to fulfill special projects.Special Instructions to Applicants1. Please attach a list of professional references to include their names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and their connection to you.Responsibilities / DutiesProgram ManagementPlan, develop, and implement the programDevelop Canvas courses for each of the 7 course modules.Develop and/or interpret program policies and proceduresAnalyze program operations; provide reports; meet regularly with the grant PI regarding program and budgetPropose program enhancements and procedural revisions, as neededOversee website updates and maintenance (internal and PESB); oversee updating of EDIE (data system)Coordinate requirements with Principals, SPED/ELL, Special Endorsement Programs (PE, ART, Music), Mentor teachersDevelop in collaboration with faculty, PESB, cross campus partners and others to advance opportunities for future endorsements appropriate to the program and needs of partnersDevelop and continually improve program documents to explain coursework, field work, scope and sequence, evidentiary portfolio, endorsement options: SPED, ELL and (future) Bilingual.Develop MOUs with Districts for internshipsManage continuous program review including collecting, reviewing and reporting on the programCommunications & RelationshipsOversee program communications and marketing, internal and externalDevelop and maintain relationships with school district partners, supervisors, cooperating teachers; attend meetingsDevelop and maintain relationships with Education Department administration and faculty, cross-campus faculty, staff, and other departments at EWU and outside entitiesOversee development and distribution of marketing materialsCommunicate with Community Colleges classroom space, pre-requisite courses neededMeet regularly with districts, ESD, building principals, supervisors, mentors, students and EWU facultyOversee digital materials and ensure materials are up-to-date; work with IT on needed updatesRecruiting & AdmissionsDetermine if application process is working and up-to-date; work with Admissions and/or IT to resolve issuesReview applications and transcripts; conduct reference checksCoordinate admits with district HR offices or district contactRespond to inquiries (phone, emails) ongoingDevelop and implement orientation processes and sessionMaintain continual communication with candidates, mentors, administratorsNotify students regarding their admission statusCoordinate with certification office, undergraduate advisor regarding pre-requisites, testing, etc.Determine placement of all students by working closely with building principalsHire and train subject area specialists for PHED, ART, MUSIC, SPED, ELL placementsHire and train adjunct faculty following department, college and university protocolsRetention and TransitionMaintain continual conversation with candidates about their status and program plan.Investigate and resolve student issuesDevelop and implement Teacher Training Mentor programReview and oversee progress on Teacher Development PlanCommunicate progress with Mentors, candidates, supervisors, etc.Identify and work to meet the individual needs of each student in the program.Advise program students (serve as the department advisor)Report to the Certification office as students obtain benchmark status and satisfactorily meet the program requirementsConfirm that Route 1 candidates have met program and university requirements for graduation; sign the graduation application for Rt1 candidates
