Job Summary: Huitt-Zollars has a great full-time opportunity for a California Registered Architect/Project Manager at our Los Angeles office. This role leads design teams through all project phases including business and client development, proposal writing, contract negotiations, design and construction documents, and construction administration while maintaining strong client relationships. This position works directly with practice area principals and/or discipline leads through the above phases of business and project development.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Act as primary contact for the client and is responsible for overall project management.
  • Plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of projects with a high degree of technical complexity.
  • Supervise project team cooperatively with the project designer.
  • Coordinate workload within project teams and work with other project directors to manage workload across the office.
  • Ensure project development, documentation and its completion meets schedule and budget.
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.
  • Review work and propose changes to design, and to comply with building codes and budget.
  • Prepare plan of action to resolve project issues.
  • Maintain project budgets and schedules while meeting client needs, business objectives and design guidelines.
  • Mentor project team and foster positive team spirit that supports everyone’s efforts to succeed.
  • Ensure staff adheres to HZ’s policies, practices and procedures.
  • Monitor internal staffing needs and coordinate client staff and their internal customers, architects, engineers, contractors and vendors.
  • Write proposals, recommend appropriate fees, and participate in contract negotiations with clients and consultants.
  • Manage bid or contractor selection process.
  • Assist market sector teams in preparing proposals, , and participating in new project presentations as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from a NCARB accredited program.
  • Must have professional architectural license, Registered CA Architect preferred or in the process of registration.
  • 8+ years of architectural design, managing institutional type projects, and construction documentation or production experience.
  • Highly proficient in Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Sketchup or other 3D Modeling software.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
  • Ability to build or expand upon either existing or new client relationships to sell future work highly desired.
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver multiple projects with varying deadlines
  • Strong design sense. Will lead and oversee development of project design
  • Excellent problem solving/analysis, and technical capacity to research and apply building codes
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication skills
  • Ability to write clearly to communicate technical issues and design ideas
  • Innate desire to learn, ask questions, and improve oneself

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities

Annual Base Salary Range: $105,000-$120,000 depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate(s). The expected salary range for this position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on the success candidate's individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and consideration to participate in our discretionary annual bonus incentive program.

About the Project Architect role

Architects Project Architect

As Project Architects, we plan and conduct minor modifications to complete working drawing sets as required. We work under the principal's direction on construction documents and design for various sized, complex building projects. We also assist with code review, research for materials, specifications, and coordinating engineering and architectural systems. We also ensure that construction detail documentation is followed with quality control and best practices. Our job is to focus on design, sustainability, community, and density, along with making sure our projects are within budget. We understand applicable codes and universal design concepts and also have the ability to coordinate projects independently.
