About Project Controls Specialist

What does a Project Controls Specialist do?

As project controls specialists, we usually work on large and complex engineering or construction projects. Our goal is to ensure that our assigned project is completed on time and within budget. We assist in the development of the project schedule and baseline, and we help define key metrics. As the project progresses, we monitor performance against established metrics, report on it, and make recommendations to members of the project team or other stakeholders. We may manage other project controls workers, or be part of a larger team of specialists.

Core tasks:

  • assisting in developing and maintaining project schedule, budget, KPIs
  • cost engineering
  • providing cost reports (capturing actuals, producing forecasts)
  • analyzing cost and productivity reports, presenting findings
  • providing input to monthly progress reports
