The role

The Ascend Hotel Collection and Cambria brand represent a vital part of the growth strategy for Choice Hotels in the upscale tier category. As Choice successfully pushes into upscale it is vital that we enhance the business model, value proposition, infrastructure and related processes. This position is responsible for supporting the execution of the following high level functions for Cambria Hotels and the Ascend Hotel Collection: This position will include activities that support brand strategy and performance, portfolio and business process optimization, project management, brand operations, communications and development. Additionally, this role will help support the Upscale leadership team with ad-hoc requests.

What you will do

  • Design and build robust business performance tools working in collaboration with Upscale team members and appropriate internal stakeholders (Business Intelligence Group (BIG), Corporate Strategy, Marketing and Distribution, etc.). Provide recommendations and insights on brand-level and portfolio performance, revenue opportunities and impact of changes in market trends, business levers and portfolio composition.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve the Guest Experience and portfolio performance, and develop recommendations and initiatives to improve metrics.

  • Partner with Owner & Corporate Strategy to proactively identify portfolio management opportunities, and monitor progress.

  • Develop reports and presentations for Upscale Executive Leadership meeting, Upscale management team meetings Owners Advisory Councils and Annual events and meetings.

Ascend Operations, Program Execution & Management

  • Manage the execution of upscale business plans, programs and brand strategy initiatives, and communicate progress of execution to Upscale membership team and key stakeholders. Activities include developing and managing projects, business and tactical plans and budgets, collaborating with cross-functional teams, identifying project roadblocks, recommending corrective actions, presenting to internal and external audiences and tracking performance metrics, as necessary.

  • Manage upscale communication initiatives to member hotels, as well as to internal and external stakeholders, including enewsletter, press releases, etc. Review, edit, and process new program launch communications including implementation guides, and work with key stakeholders to update relevant membership guidelines.

  • Work in partnership with Upscale Marketing and Distribution to brief and support an integrated marketing and communications plan.

  • Identify and independently analyze key data sources that will provide foundational insights for the formulation of the strategy including industry and consumer trends, competitive landscape as well as internal performance metrics and capabilities. Develop business model scenarios, business cases and recommendations to allow for incremental and exponential growth of Ascend as well as increased brand recognition and market share.

  • Develop concepts and frameworks for the implementation of sustainable onboarding, opening process and ramp up for Ascend hotels to leverage the power of the Area Director organization helping properties joining the collection reach their fair market share within pre-established time frames, and hotels continue to grow revenue share through their lifecycle with Ascend.

  • Monitor the pipeline of global development opportunities and track membership sales performance against the database. Work with the Ascend development team and stakeholders in the Development organization to provide relevant reporting to Upscale leadership team.

Skills you have..

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Hotel Business, Corporate Strategy, Consulting, Business Management, Operations or Distribution Strategy.

  • MBA preferred.

  • 4-6 years of experience required, hospitality industry and/or hotel management company experience preferred.

  • Self-starter, ability to work independently and with limited supervision.

  • Strong ability to handle multiple responsibilities and initiatives concurrently.

  • Advanced use of Microsoft Excel required. Must be able to run models and utilize visualization tools such as Tableau.

  • Advanced level project management and Finance skills preferred.

  • Strong presentation, time-management, analytical and customer-service skills.

  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical, organizational and motivational skills.

  • Ability to interact effectively with stakeholders of various disciplines and levels of the organization.

  • Experience in development of senior-level briefing, presentations and analysis.

  • Ability to successfully communicate and report initiative, and project status to Upscale leadership team and executives, and influence peers and management.
