Job Description

Full-time health or rehabilitation psychologist needed for a Top 100 Hospital with a 24-bed CARF accredited Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. Join a strong and experienced Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation team of physicians, psychologists, nurses and rehab therapists. The newly hired psychologist’s primary responsibility will be treating adults in the outpatient rehabilitation clinic. The ideal candidate will have an interest in growing our outpatient pain psychology program for both individuals and groups. Back up coverage for the inpatient rehab unit is a secondary duty. There may be opportunities to supervise and train students including postdoctoral fellows. The position requires a PhD or PsyD from an APA-accredited program and completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in psychology. Prior experience working in a hospital or rehabilitation setting is desirable.  Successful candidates excel in organization and time management. The ability to communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of professionals is essential.   Must be licensed or license-eligible in Iowa. Pre-employment drug screening required.

·         Patient Care/Quality Improvement

•     Routinely manages complex patients    

•     Examines patients/clients - obtains history, performs a systems review, and selects and administers or supervises the administration of discipline- and age-specific tests and measures to obtain data

•     Evaluates patients/clients - makes clinical judgments based on data gathered during the examination

•     Develops patient/client diagnoses or problem lists (cluster of signs and symptoms)

•     Develops patient/client prognoses (optimal level of improvement and time needed to achieve it)

•     Develops and implements patient/client interventions, including delegating and supervising support staff

·         Provides empirically supported psychotherapy and other therapeutic interventions based on patient needs and goals of care.

•     Provides patient and family education and training

•     Completes required patient care documentation and communication

•     Formulates and implements patients’ discharge plans in collaboration with others

•     Collaborates with hospital departments and community agencies to deliver coordinated care.

·         Completes appropriate documentation for all patient/client encounters in accordance with hospital and professional standards.
