About PTA

What does a PTA do?

As Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs), we work under the direction of physical therapists to help patients recover from injuries, improve movement, and manage pain. We assist in implementing treatment plans tailored to each individual patient, often utilizing a variety of therapeutic exercises and modalities. Our duties can include guiding patients through exercises, using equipment to perform physical therapy treatments, and monitoring patient progress. PTAs play a crucial role in educating patients about exercises they can perform at home to aid recovery. Our goal is to support the healing process and help patients achieve optimal physical function.

Core tasks:

  • Assisting in the development and modification of physical therapy treatment plans
  • Instructing, motivating, and assisting patients in learning and improving functional activities
  • Monitoring and documenting patient progress during therapy sessions
  • Performing therapeutic interventions such as exercises, massages, and modalities
  • Educating patients and their families about post-treatment home exercises and care plans
