About This Role:The Quality Inspector I inspects, audits, or functionally tests parts, subassemblies, or finished goods to ensure conformance to specification through the use of inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, plug gauges, video-scopes, and water tanks. Demonstrates behavior consistent with the company’s values of Customer Satisfaction, Innovation, Family, and Social Responsibility. Essential Job Functions/Tasks:1. Collects product or component samples and prepares them for laboratory measurement, testing, or analysis. 2. Inspects, audits, measures, and functionally tests products or materials, parts, subassemblies, and packaging for damage, defects, or shortages, using specification sheets, gauges, and standards charts. 3. Compares inspection results with specifications to ensure compliance of material. 4. Records data of inspections for use with statistical analysis. 5. Communicates with internal customers or suppliers to exchange information regarding products, materials, and services; with the purpose of supporting improvements or root-cause analysis. 6. Rejects and isolates products not meeting quality specifications, notifies appropriate personnel of discrepancies or shortages, and records non-conformances per internal processes. 7. Releases products or components that have met specifications per internal processes. 8. Communicates with technician or supervisor about deviations to quality specifications. 9. Collects or prepares measurement and identification labels and attaches them to products. 10. Compares product labels, tags, or tickets, shipping manifests, purchase orders, and/or bills of lading to verify accuracy of shipment contents, quality specifications, and/or weights. 11. Counts or estimates quantities of materials, parts, or products. Other Job Functions:Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position. Must be able to work overtime when required. May be required to cross train other inspectors. Employees are to immediately report all unsafe or hazardous conditions, including injuries and near misses to their Supervisor, Environmental Health& Safety Department, or Workers’ Compensation Manager. Those employees who do not comply with safe work practices may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination. Education/Training Required:High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience Required:Minimum of six months as an inspector or equivalent education and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):KSA #1: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to comprehend work instructions. KSA #2: Understanding of machines and tools, including their uses and maintenance. KSA #3: Ability to work within a team environment and to demonstrate professional behavior. KSA #4: Must be reliable, responsible, and dependable. KSA#5: Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills. KSA #6: Ability to perform data entry, view electronic procedures, or pass training courses. KSA #7: Ability to take on responsibilities and challenges. KSA #8: Ability to use control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles). KSA #9: Ability to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance. KSA #10: Knowledge of and ability to use arithmetic. Must be able to accurately perform intermediate mathematical and statistical calculations and use a weight counting scale. KSA #11: Strong interpersonal skills to interface with employees across the organization. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's) Preferred:KSA #12: Basic knowledge of control charts. KSA #13: CQT, CQA, or CMI certifications. KSA #14: Knowledge of rules of AQL sampling. Physical Demands:Ability to stand, walk, or sit during the shift to perform essential job functions. Ability to climb stairs to gain access to upper level work area. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to work in a variety of positions (bending, kneeling, crouching) to gain access to areas on machines. Ability to walk a minimum of half a mile when needed to move between buildings where manufacturing is conducted. Ability to repetitively grasp objects with both hands during the scheduled shift. Finger dexterity sufficient to perform fine motor tasks. Vision sufficient to perform essential job functions. Hearing sufficient to hear audible alarms or communicate with individuals in person and by telephone.
