About Quality Manager

What does a Quality Manager do?

As quality managers, we are responsible for quality assurance as well as quality control in a manufacturing/production environment. In general terms, while quality assurance is preventive and focuses on planning and streamlining processes, quality control is about inspecting the finished product to identify defects. Our duties therefore include inspecting raw materials and finished product, as well as planning, implementing, and monitoring workflows and processes. Some of us manage a team of internal auditors. We are also responsible for championing quality within the whole organization, and delivering quality-related training to employees.

Core tasks:

  • assisting in defining product quality criteria and internal audit processes
  • streamlining production processes and workflows to consistently meet quality requirements
  • inspecting raw materials
  • inspecting finished products
  • monitoring production processes and implementing changes as necessary
  • maintaining production process documentation and reporting

It can be very difficult because companies sometimes do not believe they need Quality as long as a product is getting to the customer. A good QA Manager can not only ensure the Customer needs are being met but can find more efficient and cost-effective processes.
