United Natural Foods is a Rhode Island, US based company in the food industry. Providing the customers with proper quality, quantity, and variety of groceries and food item is the goal of this comany. Already expanding to several states, the mission of this company is to grow nad provide the same, if not, better quality service to the customers. This company provides other related services such as marketing, order delivery, e-commerce, merchandising, mobile ordering and many more. This company provides five categories of employment. Corporate, Supply chain and warehouse management, Driver, Retail and Pharmacy. Students and part-time job seekers are also welcomed to apply for several of these posts.

Job Description

Purpose: 

Responsible for contributing to the near and long-term strategic plans from merchandising team and communicate the vision across the marketing organization. Provide leadership and direction to drive sales, strategies, programs and events that lead to strong Retailer sales and profit with corresponding strong sales and profit for UNFI. Plans, develops and directs the sales activities for the Region to attain stated sales, sales growth and profitability goals. Creates and maintains business relationships within a core customer base and develops new business alliances in target markets.  Develops short and long-term business plans for key accounts, and ensure that both existing and potential businesses fit within the companys strategic goals for sales, profits and market presence. 

Job Responsibilities:

Strategy:
Analyze the changing retail environment related to specific market areas; Provide leadership direction and create plans to provide sales and profitability for region customers and UNFI.
Partner with Sales & Operations to build strategies to support new or existing Sales & Operation’s territories to provide solutions to customers; i.e. sales or customer building initiatives, competitive intrusions
Establish and achieve sales goals, measures and accountability with team of GM/HBC Consultants
Establish and reinforce a consistent sales process with team of GM/HBC Consultants
Deliver Results
Communicate and work with Corporate Merchandising on promotions, sales events, etc. to drive sales at retail and generate profit for UNFI.
Coordinate with the Sales & Operations staff to provide a communication link with assigned retailers; be a resource for these retailers; and be the regional expert and a resource for the Directors of Merchandising.
Create and sustain a focus on profitable sales
Help team understand and sell the value that UNFI represents
Help teams identify customer needs and new business opportunities
Facilitate affiliation initiatives
Share best practices, market analysis, consumer research and/or other resources to help retailers position and compete effectively
Establish and execute clear strategies and tactics based on opportunities to maximize sales growth by store and by market
Provide support and remove roadblocks to sales goal attainment
Control Expenses
Establish clear strategies and tactics to accomplish Region department expense goals
Monitor ongoing expenses and adjust plans accordingly
Leverage technology and other resources to reduce or eliminate costs
Provide support and remove roadblocks to expense goal attainment
Support area goals to achieve expense ratios in all areas (e.g. logistics)
Manage Customer Relationships
Maintain visibility within the customer base
Identify customer needs, interests and concerns
Facilitate and support the development of programs targeted at key customer needs
Support customer retention
Address key customer issues (e.g., needs, requests, complaints) to the satisfaction of both parties
Establish and maintain cross-functional relationships with Procurement, Logistics, Sales & Operations, Corporate Merchandising, Finance, Advertising, and across regions.
Respond to and meet customer needs, both internally and externally.
Monitor the changing retail environment to be sensitive to marketing and retailer needs.  Communicate with Corporate Merchandising to ensure that the merchandising staff selects new items, promoted items, and discontinued items which best fit the current retail environment.

Set clear goals and provide direction; build good teams and be innovative and creative.
Ensure the best talent is recruited for the department, insure pro-active training and development is implemented and enhanced for all staff associates.
Manage the performance of the GM/HBC Consultants to increase department and supplied retailers sales and profitability while carrying out region overall strategic category management vision.
Assign responsibilities to direct reports in a way which will most effectively use their skills and previous experience. 
Communicate expectations and support for ongoing, individual and team development (e.g., including creating and executing individual development plans)
Pursue, and encourage others to pursue, opportunities to develop new knowledge and skills
Solicit feedback and suggestions from others to improve own performance
Identify team member career interests, strengths, opportunities for improvement and growth
Manage Execution

Delegate work to others to maximize the team’s and each individuals’ contributions
Provide others with sufficient/appropriate authority and responsibility to make decisions and take action
Monitor progress and intervene as necessary to ensure expected progress and outcomes

Work closely with other Region staff to accomplish Region objectives and initiatives
Engage the Workforce

Direct overall communications for the Region (e.g., goals, quarterly reviews, financial results, company initiatives)
Maintain visibility with Region employees
Advocate for employees and/or employee issues or concerns
Continuously promote and support diversity (e.g., in hiring, placement, task teams, special assignments and/or other decisions and plans)
Solicit employee involvement in and support for important decisions and initiatives

Create and sustain strong coordination and collaboration between GM Consultants, Sales & Operations and Corporate Merchandising
 
Job Requirements:
Relevant Experience, Education, Certification, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Possess good leadership skills and the ability to supervise the work of others.  Must be able to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desires results.
Possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.  Deals effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the telephone.
Requires basic computer skills and personal computer experience, with word processing and spreadsheet applications preferred.
Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities.  Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions.
Four year degree or equivalent experience essential.
Seven to ten years retail management and/or wholesale merchandising management experience essential
Strong strategic planning leadership skills essential
