Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is the first technological research university of the United States. Founded in 1824, the university promotes scientific and technological advances with more than 450 dedicated full-time faculty members including 270 tenured faculty members. Many Rensselaer faculty are the members of the National Academies, 176 Fellows of professional societies and 63 are recipients of the NSF CAREER Award. Headquartered in Troy, NY, the Institute has more than 7,940 students and more than 100,000 living alumni to address the global challenges facing the community in the 21st century. The Rensselaer Information Technology and Web Science program was the first such program in the country. Graduate engineering programs have been ranked 39th in the country and. 49th among U.S. research universities in the country by the U.S. News & World Report. Rensselaer Troy campus is located on 275 acres and offers 746 labs, studios, and technology spaces for research.
