As Residential Youth Counselors, we are responsible for the day-to-day care and counseling of at-risk teens with special needs in a residential treatment program. We provide high-quality care and ensures the safety of residents, staff, and site in accordance with policy, helping to implement the treatment or behavior plans for each resident in collaboration with an experienced multidisciplinary team. Additionally, we dispense medications when needed, help residents to tend to their health and wellness, and may help residents to manage their schedule to attend outside appointments or activities. We completely understand that participants have complex needs, and this is why we build relationships with them and their families in a supportive environment.
Core tasks:
- supervise and manage groups of participants
- transition lesson plans into learning experiences
- facilitate a safe and productive learning environment for youth
- create fun and visually appealing environment for youth
- model, enforce, teach and develop age-appropriate social, physical, and emotional behaviors
- employ positive behavior management strategies for disruptive and negative behaviors
