What does a Retail Merchandiser do?

As Retail Merchandisers, we are responsible for ensuring that the appropriate quantity of products is available in stores and sold at a reasonable price. We plan strategies to increase profit through insightful planning, careful purchasing and astute promotions. Some of us often determine particular retailers' needs and how they can vary depending on variables such as store size and target profiles. We produce point-of-purchase and shelf management systems to generate retail revenue. We create plans to address special orders, product launches, new models, and pricing adjustments with the supervisor and evaluate objectives.

Core tasks:

  • collaborate with buyers and other merchandisers
  • manage budget and predict sale and profit
  • supervising and teaching junior employees
  • monitoring stock levels and deliveries
  • handling inventory issues
