When I was hired I was hired for 32 to 40 hours a week. I never got more than 12 hours. I asked about more hours so I could afford the basic necessities like food and they told me to go apply for food stamps like all the other employees. I took the job so I could get benefits and support myself, not to draw welfare. When I complained about this they cut my hours back more. Just enough hours to pay my union fees. They stay in your ear on the headphones all day demanding you ask people to donate money and berate you if you do not ask every customer. But when you see a customer watching every product and counting their money or paying with food stamps asking them to donate is embarrassing for them or if they come through your line daily and say no rudely each day you stop asking those particular customers, but Safeway makes you ask them all regardless and they make you get X amount per shift and if you dont they dock your hours and "forget" to give you breaks. all employees r miserable

Pros and Cons
the only pro is when you clock out
unhappy management and employees everyone is miserable and broke

Let's just say Back stage picked me when first started Signature Cafe/ deli. It was a difficult situation between keep corporate in the loop and not sharing with store manager . But, I did what was asked. Ordering / stocking/ conference calls/ training etc. Everything for my dept. All for $ 8.40 an hour. To much conflict of interest between deli Manager and Store manager. With all being said " I/ and my Dept. Worker did Excellent 👍. And sales were up and successful a 2nd in San Francisco open and a 3rd in South of San Jose. The rest is confidential.. It still was a Great Experience and Although pay was bad. I'm considering one day going back to work with Safeway Nor-Cal... Don't get me wrong it's a Great opportunity and place to still work. Ty.

Pros and Cons
They could of acknowledged a work more. It does help to be noticed.?
Better communication skills between departments and store manager.

I didn’t like working at Safeway because I wanted one day off and I wasn’t aloud to and also I wanted to make my own schedule wasn’t aloud to do that either which I guess was fine but work 5 days a week from 5am-12pm isn’t bad at all but I wanted more hours and different times to work just because I had other things I had to do too so I just found a different job just because I wanted to do something more than just work at a grocery store

This company does not know how to work together as a team. When I was working as a courtesy clerk no One wanted my help. They just treated me like trash and told me to go clean the bathroom and the bathroom was already cleaned. They fired me because they said they could never find me. I was never called by any of the supervisors. I never gotten fired for something so little. Don’t work here.

This place is run on silence, obedience (and so i do not offend any one) and a lot of saying what Management wants to hear. Im in my 50s been working since I was 12 (family) and I would not have applied if I knew it was run on "if Management likes you; you are promoted and paid well" NO MATTER YOUR WORK ETHIC OR YOUR EXPERIENCE. Like I said, I have worked practically all my life ABD NEVER WORKED FOR such a 'clicky' place.

Working at Safeway was technically my first job, and it was fun. I love to move and that job kept me busy! I made alot of good friends in the period of time i was there! It is great place to start out at as a kid, or even as a later in life part-time job!

Pros and Cons
Baked goods and leftovers were commonly available in the staff break room. That was an awesome perk.
The growth room can be limited. But if you are a hard worker, you won't go unnoticed!
