This job was As an employee at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Biloxi Mississippi. Since I was not active member of the organization itself I was simply working for the center in my job capacity. It's quite similar to working on a military base and not actually being in the military. The fact that it was a religious Organization that was in charge of this facility made it nice to work at. The people for the most part use the Kroc Center for various projects and they even had a swimming pool in a gym. I did not mind working there however my supervisor would not get us everything we needed at the cafe and he was trying to skimp and it didn't work out very well in that respect.

Pros and Cons
They have the chapel which was nice to go in and also I could utilize the gym and the swimming pool
We were not part of the Salvation Army itself.

Salvation army puts on a good front. I am an extremely hard worker. On hurricane Katrina Relief, I had seizure , went to assist the next day, without complaints. Then, was sent home early and was told there was no need for my position any longer. Please stop giving to them if you think this is a good charity. This is only a small example of behind the scenes.

I loved the work I did with the children and all of my other volunteer rolls, the mobile kitchen, the angel tree program, the weekly and holiday food give a ways, and the bell ringing, my children especially liked the bell ringing, but, when I was falsely accused of a crime, and my captains knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that i was wrongly accused, they asked me why i wanted to stay in the church..... so I left.

Pros and Cons
Being of service to my community.

It was the best first job I had as a teen. I enjoyed the experience of volunteering, of getting to know each personality of each child and each child getting to know me. I miss it very much. I was a teen seeking something to do for the summer to keep me out of trouble. I was never in trouble and wanted that cycle of life to continue. It was very rewarding spiritually as a christian to have a safe place to go and to be. I enjoyed my time there. No complaints! :) I loved it.

Pros and Cons
Friendly boss/coworkers, healthy free lunches, good kids.
No cons. It was perfect.

This is by far one of the worst schools I have ever worked at. The management was terrible and completely unprofessional. One story I will share is that on Fridays they did a movie day where the children could buy super unhealthy snacks for a ridiculous markup price. The manager insisted that this was in order to raise money for the school. The school was in a very low income area and I had to watch as children were told that they could not have a snack because they did not bring money. It was heartbreaking to see these children from low-income families who just wanted to be able to purchase something to snack on but returned away due to not having $3 for something that should cost about $0.50. One week I told my children that I would bring in snacks for Friday movie day if they were on their best behavior that week. I went to the store and use my own money to purchase healthy snacks but was told by the manager that what I did was completely out of line.

Pros and Cons
Most of the staff were very kind and professional people
Management as well as windowless tiny classroom were terrible
