Santa Barbara City College is a comprehensive community college that serves Santa Barbara County's south coast. SBCC was founded in 1909 and is widely regarded as one of the best two-year community colleges in California and the United States. The Santa Barbara State Normal School, which eventually became the Santa Barbara College, and later the University of California, Santa Barbara, essentially took over the college's operations following World War I. The institution offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs, as well as transfer programs for the first two years of a baccalaureate degree. SBCC attracts students because of its cutting-edge technology facilities, excellent teachers, small classes and extensive student services.
