About SAS Programmer

What does a SAS Programmer do?

As SAS Programmers, we convert the raw data into usable data sets and create statistical tables showing information. Our job is to review or provide standard data specifications and create data files using SAS Receive and review the standard client file as specified by the Data Manager. We also act as a part of the Software Development Life Cycle, review the user requirements and create and review technical and functional specifications and approve them. Not only that, it is our job to train System Analysts and Data Management personnel as determined by management. Sometimes, we have close collaboration with other disciplines and departments within and across external organizations.

Core tasks:

  • assisting in analyzing all statistical needs in project proposals and guiding people responsible for the project in formulating appropriate programs for data requirements
  • recommending the best approach for issues and developing SAS programs for approved projects
  • managing and maintaining the databases which contain a large amount of information
  • writing macros to simplify the dataset commands and make databases search easier
