About SBA Business Development Officer

What does a SBA Business Development Officer do?

As SBA business development officers, we work for financial organizations offering SBA (small business administration) loans. We are sales professionals responsible for the promotion and growth of such loan programs. We drive the entire sales cycle, from sourcing and lead generation, to contracting and closing. Apart from the classic sales skillset, we are usually required to have at least some experience with loan programs, underwriting, and banking in order to be able to advise clients appropriately.

Core tasks:

  • developing referral network with brokers, business associations, accountants, lawyers, etc. to solicit SBA loan opportunities
  • presenting loan capabilities to prospective and existing clients
  • collecting loan applications and preparing credit submission
  • maintaining client relationships
