About School Social Worker

What does a School Social Worker do?

As School Social Workers, we provide counseling and help to students, parents, and school staff to address the psychological and social well-being affecting their performance. We communicate with students and parents to determine the areas in which they may need to be counseled and understand their challenges. We also help students and families suffering from abuse, violence, hunger, or homelessness to access resources like shelters, food banks, and medical care. We maintain student records and track them to check their progress. We also help provide appropriate information to the outside support services to help with the student issues.

Core tasks:

  • help students that have undergone violence
  • communicate with the student's parent or guardians
  • assist teachers to manage student behavior
  • report child abuse and neglect
