To help those leaving Nazi Germany preserve their freedom and integrity as they tried to forge new lives in America, Selfhelp Community Services were founded in 1936. Today, with 46 projects providing services across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and Westchester, Selfhelp is one of the largest and highly recognized not-for-profit community support organizations in the New York metropolitan area. Each year, Selfhelp offers a diverse variety of programs to more than 20,000 old, frail, and disadvantaged New Yorkers, while remaining North America's largest provider of integrated services for Holocaust survivors. With the overall purpose of helping seniors survive with dignity and freedom and escape institutionalization, it provide a full network of home care and community-based programs. It provides employees with different retirement benefits, paid leave, and insurance.
