The candidate's preferred location will be within a commutable distance to one of our offices in San Diego, CA, Foster City, CA or Madison, WI. Illumina offers hybrid work arrangements.
Responsibilities:
- Drafting and negotiating commercial and intellectual property contracts, including sales, licensing, software, data, service, distribution, and collaboration agreements;
- Leading legal projects and workstreams in complex corporate transactions (e.g., mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships and collaborations);
- Negotiating terms and conditions for product sales;
- Advising on the various legal risks, business strategies, and other issues related to commercial and intellectual property deals in a very competitive and fast-paced environment;
- Reviewing and revising business documents and working closely with our business teams to accomplish company goals;
- Developing and improving processes that support contracting with our customers, vendors, and collaborators; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements: - 5+ years of relevant legal experience;
- Extensive experience with commercial and intellectual property-related contract matters;
- Fluency with software and data-oriented transactions preferred;
- Strong work ethic, a sense of urgency, and high level of responsiveness to competing deadlines;
- Good sense of judgment and practical business mind to balance competing legal and business considerations to obtain practical solutions and business-oriented results;
- Must have exceptional attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication skills, and strong negotiation skills;
- Undergraduate or advanced degree in business or technology preferred; and
- In-house experience preferred.
Education: - Law degree (JD or equivalent) with excellent academic credentials and a license to practice in a minimum of one state in the U.S
