KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Summary(Role Summary)

Responsible for administration and support of various distributed platforms (TPF, MVS, Unix, NT). Provide direct technical support for all requirements in the planning, coordination, programming, and implementation of distributed systems, technical support, software/systems programming, and data center capabilities.  Ensure systems programming standards and requirements are documented.  Provide continuous coverage for hardware and software problems and ensure the overall effectiveness of systems globally. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities(Key Activities)

·         Support various distributed platforms(TPF,MVS,Unix,NT) systems programming & production environments to include:

-        Support of Data Center operations

-        Provide documentation of processes and procedures to manage hardware and system software

-        Manage storage and media

-        Manage operating resources

-        Support strategic capacity planning initiatives

-        Ensure problems are diagnosed and resolve in a timely manner

·         Oversee the monitoring and reporting of second level support for the operating systems and hardware performance; and seek methods for improvement.

·         Ensure the stable performance of the systems through the monitoring, analysis, identification and resolution of issues.

·         Provide technical direction and training to more junior level software engineers.

·         Provide technical consultation in new systems development and enhancement of existing systems; participate in structured walkthroughs and technical reviews.

Band Level:  6

Salary range:  Base plus potential bonus

Tasks

  • Modify existing software to correct errors, allow it to adapt to new hardware, or to improve its performance.
  • Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
  • Confer with systems analysts, engineers, programmers and others to design system and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces.
  • Store, retrieve, and manipulate data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements.
  • Design, develop and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.
  • Develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation.
  • Supervise the work of programmers, technologists and technicians and other engineering and scientific personnel.
  • Determine system performance standards.
  • Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.
  • Consult with customers about software system design and maintenance.
  • Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan computer specifications and layouts, and peripheral equipment modifications.
  • Obtain and evaluate information on factors such as reporting formats required, costs, and security needs to determine hardware configuration.
  • Train users to use new or modified equipment.
  • Specify power supply requirements and configuration.
  • Recommend purchase of equipment to control dust, temperature, and humidity in area of system installation.
