Job Description:
This position provides software defect and enhancement support for NOAA Geostationary Ground Sustainment Services (GGSS) Mission Management (MM) of a Satellite Antenna Ground System. Software Engineer responsible for research, design, development, and integration of software systems for a large program. As part of our team, you will be responsible for helping to develop ground system command and control, antenna interface and data forwarding functions. Help with leading the research, design, development, and integration of software systems. This role requires the application of the principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. You will analyze software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints. Develop and direct software system testing procedures, programming and documentation. Technologies utilized by the systems include C++, Java, python, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Apply the appropriate standards, processes, procedures and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of engineering applications and products. Interface with customers, suppliers, application users and other technical and support personnel.
Essential Functions:
A strong, first-hand knowledge of maintaining the software baseline in ClearCase and strategies for managing multiple baselines in the same tool.
Ensure that products/projects delivered meet customer requirements and specifications
Drive process improvements to aid in team coordination and maintain delivery schedule
Communicate with leadership on status, issues, milestones, and successes
Good organizational skills, excellent problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills
Excellent ability to analyze problems and to focus and drive down to the root cause of problems quickly
Contribute to requirements analysis, design, code and unit test, integration and test, requirements sell off, and operations and maintenance of application software systems
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
Minimum 4 years of software development experience in application software development
Prior or current experience in development, maintenance, troubleshooting and investigating software problems for RedHat Linux based implementation
Experience in Java, Python, or Javascript
Experience in bash scripting
Prior or current experience with software test approaches to recommend appropriate testing
Experience designing, writing, and reviewing code in C++ and/or Java
Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
Familiar with Linux and Windows operating-systems
Support all phases of the software lifecycle, including software architecture, design, implementation, integration, building and deploying releases, debugging, and full documentation
Understanding of CMMI Level 3 software development processes
Evaluate and recommend architecture and process improvements
Strong skills in scripting (BASH and Python)
Able to integrate major OTS SW packages from Oracle, IBM, etc.
Experience with HTML, Perl, MatLab a plus
Experience with LDAP, Active Directory a plus
Experience with ClearCase, especially config specs, merging, and labeling a plus
Experience with Linux application level debugging and OTS library dependencies a plus
