Role Overview:
This position is a seasoned professional in Manufacturing Engineering who works independently and in collaboration with other manufacturing design personnel. Analyzes designs and develops component layouts. Coordinates and implements sequence of operations, and product updates and enhancements.
The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for performing work specific to detail parts manufacturing and assembly operations of polyurethane, composite, rubber, and metallic materials within manufacturing cells. The manufacturing areas may include Polyurethane processing, Bonding/assembling hardware, Painting, and Machining support as examples.
Primary Responsibilities:
Independently plans and supports the design and development of advanced polyurethane products in a fast paced and team-oriented environment.
Ability to work with all levels within the organization.
Design polyurethane molds, processes, and documentation to produce products that meets customer specifications, substantiate the design through test and analysis, and document the design and substantiation.
Develop and document design and process methods that advance the technical capabilities of Collins engineering.
Create/maintain Bills of Materials, production and labor routers.
Work with floor supervisors to achieve schedule and address technical issues.
Work with new product introduction teams.
Support release of product to production which meets or exceeds applicable requirements of performance, reliability, cost, producibility, and serviceability.
Interface with shop floor personnel for the purpose of communicating technical information and promoting the technical image of Collins.
Demonstrated ability to estimate and meet project schedule and costs.
Ability to write process documentation that is understandable for those with limited technical background.
Familiarity with ASTM/ANSI test standards.
Ability to read and interpret drawings including GD & T.
Prepare test plans, analyze test data, and prepare reports to support project activity, and maintain up-to-date records of project test results.
Plan and conduct work requiring sound engineering judgment in the evaluation, selection and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.
Prepares or directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects.
Participates in defining engineering approaches, and in planning and scheduling work.
Must understand fundamentals of Root Cause Analysis.
Knowledge and experience in the fundamentals of Continuous Improvement (Lean manufacturing/ACE/Toyota Production System).
Perform other duties as required.
Performance of the above is on an experienced basis, dealing with technical problems of moderate scope and with minimal supervision while occasionally providing guidance.
Perform various risk assessments and develop processes that comply with Collins standards in regards to Environmental, Health and Safety, including ergonomics.
Interface with the customer to ensure product/process requirements are being met
Basic Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in preferably Chemical or Material Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience,
OR an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience.
In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.
Must be a US Citizen and able to acquire a DOD security clearance.
Must be willing to relocate to Jacksonville, Florida.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in design & production environment is preferred.
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently or as part of an integrated product team
Excellent interpersonal skills
100% dedicated to following all safety procedures and precautions
Strong written and verbal skills including thorough knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) MS Project a plus.
Good analytical skills including the ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory
Working level knowledge of CAD software is desired (e.g. Solid Works, or Catia)
Working level knowledge of MRP systems is desired (SAP a plus)
