Job Description

Alkon has a current job opening for a Sr. Product Designer.�Employees who feel they are qualified for this positon may apply directly by turning in a resume to Human Resources.�
Responsibilities:The Sr. Product Designer is responsible for designing products to meet customer's specifications, and our company standards.�In this role you will develop conceptual layouts, final designs, detail drawings and all the associated BOMs using the latest 3D modeling software and our ERP system (Macola).�This role's principle product responsibility is pneumatic cylinders, however other responsibilities may include valves, fittings and other related products required.��Conduct design reviews of product designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements and related specifications.�Design product to meet all requirements.��Perform preliminary and advance work in development of working layouts (2D & 3D) and final drawings adequate for detailing parts and units of design for new proposals and current designs.�Perform calculations required to adequately select materials and processing requirements.�Directly communicate with customers concerning material and lead time for cylinders in process.�Interact with vendors and customers on engineering design issues for different stages of development.�Understand and respond to customer requests, both written and verbal.�Communicate with Purchasing, Quality, Sales and Production regarding issues related to problems or improvements.�Maintains drawing files as required.�
Requirements:Hydraulic Pneumatic Cylinder Experience highly desirableStrong knowledge and experience with SolidWorks 3D modeling, Microsoft Office, five to seven years in Pneumatic design or manufacturing.�Onshape experience also preferred.�Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor desired, but not required.Working knowledge�of Microsoft Office products (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)Working knowledge of engineering principles necessary to specify appropriate materials and processes to ensure products meet quality and reliability requirements.�Experience and understanding of the manufacturing process(s) required to manufacture Pneumatic Cylinders (including machining and production assembly) cost effectively and in accordance with technical requirements.Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detailStrong analytical and problem solving skillsSelf-motivated with the ability to multitask and prioritize projects while tracking own responsibilitiesAbility to work individually and as part of a team along with the ability to interact with all levels of the company hierarchyAbility to provide and take instruction from team membersWork well under pressure and possess the ability to receive and handle coaching professionallyStrong oral and written communication skill set with the ability to convey technical concepts4 year engineering degree and/or equivalent experience related to field

TASKS

  • Prepare sketches of ideas, detailed drawings, illustrations, artwork, or blueprints, using drafting instruments, paints and brushes, or computer-aided design equipment.
  • Modify and refine designs, using working models, to conform with customer specifications, production limitations, or changes in design trends.
  • Evaluate feasibility of design ideas, based on factors such as appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production costs/methods, and market characteristics.
  • Confer with engineering, marketing, production, or sales departments, or with customers, to establish and evaluate design concepts for manufactured products.
