About Statistical Programmer

What does a Statistical Programmer do?

As Statistical Programmers, it is our job to create computer software that can collect, analyze, and report information from a large database. As data analysis takes a lot of accuracy and precision, we have strong attention to detail and are detail-oriented to catch any potential errors. We input into and also negotiate statistical programming timelines and make sure to follow these timelines. It is our job to lead programming efforts and provide expert programming support to colleagues in all different areas where data aggregation is needed. Moreover, we take part in all departmental and cross-functional technology development and process improvement activities. All of us can perform data analysis tasks with only minimal supervision. We give programming support for data management as well.

Core tasks:

  • leading a statistical programming team to complete a project within a given budget and timeline
  • preparing required programming documentation with plans and specifications that are under the statistical programmer's supervision
  • developing analysis statistical dataset, and preparing summary tables and graphs
  • assisting with quality assurance and requirements of audits
