About Supply Chain Manager

What does a Supply Chain Manager do?

As supply chain managers, we are responsible for a company’s supply chain strategy. In short this means ensuring the flow of goods and services. By streamlining the company’s supply chain activities we aim to improve productivity and efficiency to gain competitive advantage in the marketplace. We usually collaborate with other departments, such as Finance and Operations, to create effective business plans and analyze issues. We keep track of logistics and inventory with the help of supply chain management softwares. We also collaborate with vendors to ensure quality and safety standards are respected. Sometimes we manage a team of supply chain specialists and are tasked with personnel administration and people management activities as well.

Core tasks:

  • assisting in logistics process for new product development, inventory maintenance, manufacturing, shipment, and returns
  • evaluating and enhancing supply chain processes
  • developing and implementing cost-effective sourcing strategies
  • managing material cost budgets
  • keeping detailed records
  • providing reports and develop presentations to management
  • building and maintaining relationships with third-party vendors
