What does a Surgical First Assistant do?

As Surgical First Assistants, our primary tasks include assisting surgeons during surgical procedures by holding retractors, suctioning, suturing, and managing hemostasis. We ensure the surgical area is properly prepared and that all necessary instruments and equipment are sterilized and functional. We play a crucial role in minimizing the risk of infections by adhering to strict aseptic techniques. We also monitor the patient's vital signs and provide immediate post-operative care.
