What does a Technical Writer do?

As technical writers, we plan instruction manuals, journal articles, and other paper-based reports to communicate technical and complex information more effectively. We produce, compile and disseminate technical information Via communication channels. Besides, we create paper-based as well as digital instructions, booklets and general questionnaire pages to help technical support staff, users, and other customers to improve end-user experience in an organization. We collaborate with developers, quality engineers, software developers, data scientists, product managers, business analysts and marketing specialists to create high-quality documentation.

Core tasks:

  • collaborate with technical experts to make instructions and manuals user-friendly
  • edit content created by other authors or staff
  • choose the best format, such as manuals or animations, for the target audience
  • determine the needs of users and standardizing the content
