The Broad is a museum of contemporary art in downtown Los Angeles, California. The museum hosts a permanent collection of art, numbering more than 2,000 pieces. Some of the pieces take up entire rooms. Many of the pieces are installations involving lights, mirrors, and oversized canvases. Temporary exhibitions may involve one featured artist, a single installation, or pieces from a variety of artists centred on a common theme. General admission to the main collection is free, and certain exhibitions are also free of charge. The Broad is named after its inaugural benefactors, Eli and Edythe Broad, who financed the museum structure, which opened in 2015. The Broad hires primarily around marketing and artistic direction.
