Cashier
Zephyrhills, FL - November 27, 2024
When I applied for a job at THD I never thought I was going to be a cashier, but I had a great experience, learned a lot and enjoyed my time there. I made great friends and was always congratulated by my superiors.
i even won an award as a Homer employee 3 months after I started working.
Unfortunately, I had to leave for medical reasons, but if I could, I would love to go back.

When I began at THD 2.5 yrs ago, I had just gotten terminated from EVS at St. Tammany Hospital for reasons I won’t disclose, but it was political garbage. Ironically the HR lady told me that she believes that when one door closes, another opens for better opportunities, this coming just before Christmas of 2023! It wasn’t a month and I had the job at THD as a Garden Associate.
I absolutely love the coworkers, the store location, and my position. At my particular store 0358, the managers truly express their humanity when it comes to the hardships of life in general, such as my husband having terminal cancer, physically not able to do much any more, and have had to miss work due to caring for him when he wants no one else around. He says I give him security. My managers and supervisors give me security in keeping my position with THD when they express their humanity towards me.
In this world today, there’s so much selfishness and evil, I’m grateful for my team at THD.
Pros and Cons
Pro’s: benefits, chance to move up, and pay isn’t bad either.
Being told that I can’t have a certain set schedule when they give that to another coworker.

Order fulfillment
Maple Grove, MN - June 1, 2024
When I originally started there I was a lumber associate, everything was well and I kept the area organized as well as clean. Months down the line I got a “promotion” to do order fulfillment and from there everything went bad and I got fired. The communication isn’t the greatest so you don’t really know you’re doing anything wrong until well, you’re fired. And in those office talks, management is actually pretty rude.
Pros and Cons
Food parties
Poor communication with high expectations
Current The Home Depot employee6 months ago
I agree with the rudeness and lack of communication. Similar situation at my current store.

A working environment that allows you to perform without being under pressure. Encourages you to experiment with better performance methods and to feel a satisfaction in your work accomplishments. Supportive of your goals and how you may achieve them. An overall happy environment
Pros and Cons
Comparable pay, good benefits and employee supportive.
It is a dusty environment because of the nature of the business and noisy around equipment.

Home Depot is an inclusive workplace with all sorts of employees. They are dedicated to giving every employee the tools they need to succeed, with most of the managers I've known having been promoted from regular associates.
As an essential retailer the company took really good care of us during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, too; they gave us extra paid sick time, let anyone take a leave of absence if they preferred to stay at home, and made it easy for us to stay masked up and keep social distance.
They encourage employees to acknowledge when their co-workers go above and beyond, which can pay off in monetary awards. They also have a charity fund for employees in need, and a matching gift program for donations to other non-profits. And they regularly send teams to work with Habitat for Humanity, so they do care about their local communities.
As long as you follow your schedule there's no limit to how far you can go within the company.
Pros and Cons
Good benefits, like bonuses, flexible scheduling, stock purchasing plans
They stretch the scheduling pretty thin; you can often find yourself alone in your department

Lies all throughout the company, favoritism. Racism. They do not know how to care for they’re associates. Don’t let Success sharing fool you, only the managers get the huge chunk of it, while we on the other hand get maybe 30-50$.

Lumber Associate
Zephyrhills, FL - May 24, 2023
I worked there for a high school job, it was nice starting out but later, the employees began to find out how unfairly paid they were compared to others. We don’t get any overtime, we can’t pick up extra shifts if we’ve been scheduled for 5 days that week, it’s hard to move up, and the sick leave is so minute that it’s almost completely irrelevant. Vacation as well takes long to get.
Pros and Cons
Free food every 30 days.
Bad pay, no ot, little sick leave, little vacation time

The Home Depot prides itself on putting customer satisfaction first, and this all starts with the associate's and the ability and willingness to guarantee that all the customers needs are met in a timely fashion. The best way to do this is by knowing where product is located in the store, whether product is on shelf or off shelf, how many on-hands of said product is in store or on order. One main goal of an associate is to get to know and understand the customers needs and to also have a great understanding and knowledge of the products the customer is looking for. It always helps to smile and be as friendly and courteous as possible so that the customer will have the best shopping experience possible. I definitely recommend the Home Depot to job seekers, the experience is fun and rewarding.
Pros and Cons
The company does two success shareing parties each year.
Kelly's deli could have a better selection of food items

Assistant Store Manager
Key West, FL - May 15, 2023
I was one of four assistant store manager at the Key West Home Depot. Once the economy started to crash in 2008 Home Depot decided to just get rid of anybody that didn’t make them money. This company is horrible. They only care about profits they don’t care about people if you shop at a Home Depot you know no one is going to help you you’re on your own there Associates will run away from you if they think you might need help
Pros and Cons
Nothing is good about this company
They don’t care about you

Co-workers are easy to get along with, even in different departments. But, of course you have those co workers who spread rumors about others. Some of the manager or most, aren’t good at their job and most of the time people do not like them. Customers are disrespectful to the workers and we can’t do anything about that because of our policy.
Pros and Cons
Break, friendly People, nice environment, pay
Parking lot, managers, co workers, customers

Not sure about the current company. The company has had a great deal of ups and downs. Was a great company when Bernie and Arthur ran the company. It went down with the next CEO (deliberately unnamed), started to improve with Blake. Now unsure. 21 years working for this company with too many to count positions both hourly and Salary. It has/had top notch opportunities for growth, however, now I think the HR structure is a challenge for employees (Red tape).
Pros and Cons
Advancement opportunities
Bottom line cuts, staffing, structure

If it weren't for the amazing fellow associates who work hard to make sure the store runs smoothly, the store would easily fall apart. Management plays and "chills" all day in their offices and break room, so don't expect much leadership from the leadership team but the family feel from everyone else who works there makes up for it! The pay isn't bad but the company could do far better, especially considering how much more opportunity (slack) the associates pick up after management.
Pros and Cons
The people, the benefits, success sharing, atmosphere
Low pay for hard work, management team is a joke, very few hours available

THD consistently scheduled me for 29 hours a week to purposely keep me as a part time employee in order to keep me from getting employee benefits and save the company's bottom line. They prefer to have a large amount of part time employees rather than have a small number of full time employees. Their only concern is profit not people.
Pros and Cons

I loved my job until i got pregnant. The day i told my bosses i was pregnant was the day it all went downhill. For a company that strives to be"family oriented" and says they care they have so much to learn. When your pregnant you need to snack at least every 2 hours to help keep you going as the baby takes all your energy. I was told I wasnt allowed to keep them at my desk in my drawer because it was unprofessional. But i also wasnt allowed to go back to the break room to eat because there was customers, even of there wasnt anybody there. As i got more pregnant my doctor wrote a note asking to have me sit as an accommodation to keep me working ( i wouldve had to have been on bed rest if not). I was then told they "dont accept doctor's notes" and a stool is unprofessional. For a 6-9 month pregnant women a stool is unprofessional. Not to mention the comments made to and about me by managers were completely and totally uncalled for and inappropriate and when reported nothing was done.
