The MetroHealth System is a not for profit, public health care system derived in 1837, located in Cleveland, Ohio. The system dispenses care at four hospitals, more than 20 health centers and 40 additional sites throughout Cuyahoga County and had more than 7,700 employees as of December 2018. MetroHealth is obligated to teach and research as an academic medical center and its functioning staff physician controls a faculty appointment at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. It broke ground on its new hospital in 2019 and the project is being capitalized with almost $1 billion the system adopted on its own credit after dramatically upgrading its finances. The operating revenue of the health system has increased by 40 percent and its number of employees by 21 percent in the past five years. Almost 300,000 patients are helped by MetroHealth at more than 1.4 million visits in its hospitals and health centers in the past year, 75 percent of whom are covered by Medicare.
