What does a Transportation Security Officer do?

As Transportation Security Officers, we are responsible for making security checks at a location. Our duties include screening passengers and their cargo and baggage. Working at airports, it is our core job to prevent any dangerous persons and materials from entering the planes. We screen hundreds of passengers daily using tools or with hands. We are responsible for making sure that all security and safety regulations are followed at the airport. Working with security equipment including hand wands and x-ray machines is a part of our duties.

Core tasks:

  • screen cargo, passengers, and luggage for any dangerous items and prohibited materials
  • maintain well-organized travelers traffic flows at checkpoints
  • monitor airport security measures and look for enhancements
  • report potential security flaws and weaknesses at the airport
