The United States National Guard is a reserve military component of the United States Armed Forces under the dual control of the state and the federal government. It is composed of members or units from all 50 U.S. states, all territories of the U.S., the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. Members of the National Guard are members of the militia. They hold a civilian job and serve part-time in the Guard.
