As my wife and I looked forward to my graduation from Law School and the promising career at the firm I clerked at, 9/11 happened and those cushy law firm dreams were exchanged for 20+ years of public service in the Secret Service. The first few months of training away from home and family were exciting and eventful with driving, shooting, control tactics, classroom, PT and more PT. Then came my assignment to the Chicago Field Office where I investigated Counterfeit, Financial Crimes, and used my legal background to excel in Asset Forfeiture. After 11 years in Chicago, I was assigned to a protective detail for the last 9 years until I retired. The worst part was never being deemed worthy of receiving one requested position I asked for, but worthy of extra work and assignments while the “favored” got away with doing little. Be advised, as a govt job, you work hard you’ll always work hard and go nowhere. Be a partier, glad-hander, etc and you’ll do well in this fraternity.

Pros and Cons
Travel, see the world and world events first hand
Endless travel, ridiculous hours, worst management
