University of Delaware is a private-public research university whose main campus is located in Newark, with satellite campuses in Dover, Wilmington, Lewes and Georgetown. The university is a huge Institution with approximately 18,200 undergraduate and 4,200 graduate students. It is a privately governed university which receives public funding for being a state supported research Institution. The University has built its reputation on the core values of integrity, civility, and creative collaboration, intellectual achievement, and a commitment to the greater good. The University traces its origins to 1743, when Francis Alison opened a “Free School” in New London, Pennsylvania. The school was run under the auspices of the Philadelphia Synod of the Presbytarian Church during its early years. Dennis Assanis is the present President of the University. The university is classified among Doctoral Universities with very high research activity. The University spent $186 million on research and development in 2018 according to the National Science Foundation, ranking it 119th in the nation.
