I moved cross country for a 5 year Orthopedic Surgery Internship and Residency . The Internship was a General Surgery Internship, leading to the 4 year of residency. I was treated as an inferior, slave, battered, psychologically abused, non equal to any other in hospital employees on the wards. My instructors were alcoholic, wife and girl friend beaters, and a good example of what I didn't want to become. I thought about quitting my medical career if this was an example of what was ahead of me. After 2.5/5 years of residency, I made a decision to leave this position and go into Emergency Medicine. The best career decision I had made up to that point.
