The University of Southern Mississippi is a public land-grant academic institute and research center that offers numerous bachelor's, master's, specialist and doctoral degrees. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, having two campuses, the main campus located in Hattiesburg and the other large campus, Gulf Park, in Long Beach. Dedicated research sites further add to the university’s 300-acre campus, which is classified among ‘R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity’. The university was first established as the Mississippi Normal College, back in 1910. The presence of 24 Goldwater Scholars and numerous other nobel laureates and renowned scientists in its faculty of 900 educators, attracts students from all around the world, presently having an active enrollment of 15000 students.
