About Unix System Administrator

What does an Unix System Administrator do?

As UNIX System Administrators, we manage UNIX multiuser operating system. We install software and hardware relating to the system and manage risks to minimize the chances of problems. We monitor the system’s performance and conduct routine maintenance checks so that the system operates smoothly. Configuring and tuning servers and networks is part of our responsibilities. We also manage backup systems and restoration protocols. We create technical manuals helping companies grow their business and run operations with reduced problems.

Core tasks:

  • create UNIX system files
  • implement network and computer system policies
  • monitor system and server performance
  • detect and troubleshoot software and hardware issues
