The Department of Homeland Security formally came into existence with the passing of the Homeland Security Act by the American Congress in November 2002. DHS was established by combining 22 different federal departments. Eleven days after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge was appointed as the first Director of Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The mission of Department of Homeland Security is to secure the nation from the various threats. DHS coordinated a comprehensive national strategy to safeguard the country against terrorism and save from any future attacks. DHS has of more than 240,000 dedicated employees that belongs to different branches from aviation, border security to emergency response and different cadre from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. The Department of Homeland Security works with a strong motive of keeping America safe with honor and integrity and safeguard the American people and homeland.
