What does an Utilization Review Nurse do?

As Utilization Review Nurses, we frequently execute case reviews. We evaluate the current conditions of patients. We provide doctors with recommendations concerning patient evaluations. Reviewing insurance claims is a task among our assigned roles. We decide if a patient must be admitted within the hospital. We handle discussions with the families of the patients. Utilization Review Nurses ensure that the hospital complies with all standard regulations. We serve as consultants. We identify if the treatment being administered is appropriate for the patient. If falls onto us to ensure patients' assessments are completed.

Core tasks:

  • reviewing charts to keep patient files up-to-date
  • consulting with the staff to educate them on managed care methods
  • coordinating plans for patient discharge
  • preventing patient complications during their admission in the hospital
