I started working for Verizon at 18, back then it was NE Telephone. Over the years it provided my family and I with a great life for someone with a High School Education. Out of all the jobs I have had over my career, it is the one I enjoyed the most. If you are looking for a great opportunity, apply and give it a try.
Pros and Cons
Great pay, great benefits and a diverse culture.
Like any utility, you will have to work when the situation warrants you to stay later.

Verizon was a wonderful company to work for until the MCI buyout, once the MCI employees came onboard they laid all the previous Verizon employees off. I expected to some day retire from Verizon, but after we shared our systems & processes they no longer wanted us. Upper management positions were all former MCI employees.
Pros and Cons
Was a great job, acknowledged by mgmt
Lay off made no sense

Fiber Customer Support Analyst
Irving, TX - November 11, 2022
Before Verizon sold off the FiOS services to Frontier the work environment was busy but fun. Your immediate supervisors were in touch with what you did on the phones because that's where they started. Upper management was not in touch with what it was like to be on the front line of customer support of their fiber optic network. They had competitive compensation that was a above average and you felt as if you were part of a team.
Pros and Cons
Good benefits and salaries.
Sometimes slow or no advancements.

Wilmington, NC - July 15, 2022
Hospitalized 3 times because of treatment as an employee and job stress. 4 people I know of personally basically went " bananas" , hospitalized, and quit. Extremely stressful having to meet many metrics. Still, in ths large corporation, immediate supervisory staff plays favorites. Opportunities are given only to a select few. Newcomers are promoted over tenured personnel. Open positions are not posted. The selected few are secretely contacted and promoted. Fair treatment is non-existent. Job pays well but super stressful situations ever day with callers, supes and metrics. Select few work off line. The stress is not worth the pay.
Pros and Cons
Pay and benefits.
Everything else.

Verizon's motto is "Change energizes us". And they hold stead fast to that motto. Managers come and go, policies change quickly and the long term employee is left spinning wheels with no clear direction of leadership. I wouldn't recommend this for career pathing.
Pros and Cons
Nothing that stands out.
demoralizing, demeaning, lack of leadership, lack of direction

Loved taking calls from customers. I had a very supportive supervisor and got recognition when ever I deserved it. If I wasn't military and had to move I would still be there.
Pros and Cons
Learning all the aspects of the company.
At the time it was when Verizon didn't have the unlimited plans, so dealt with upset customers.

After the training which is actually interesting, you are put on the floor the last week then you chose your schedule. Depending on your ranking and how well you’ve done in training you normally get what you requested. From there your assigned to a team. I had a great team in fact my team members came to me for assistance and my supervisor recognized that. None of my calls ended with the customer unhappy. We were allowed to give our personal cellphone numbers to customers that requested in case they had problems in the future.
Pros and Cons
Friendly atmosphere, great pay
You may not get the shift you want and sometimes it took a few minutes to get the correct answers

Engineer IV Cslt, Network Engineer/Ops
Richardson, TX - September 8, 2021
To keep it short, I started as a support engineer and ended a Network Engineer.
Worked with 17 individuals in three shifts.
In three months, was assigned my first application to support. though it took almost a full year to learn the position.
Group maintained 1700 servers, over 30 applications and a multitude of monitoring apps to assist us maintaining systems and platforms.
Servers ran Linux, VMS, and Windows servers. Utilized VMWare and Data centers for redundancy. Setup maintenances, patched servers and upgraded applications.
Wrote up MOPs (Method of Procedures) during times when upgrades, patching, and fixes were required,
Documented processes and procedures and fixes,
At times, was called on to discuss critical issues with customer.
This were just some of the things I performed. You might also be asked to lead meetings, manage a group of people and other things.
Verizon wasn't all work; we'd have brown bag lunches, picnics and play softball as a group or go bowling.
Pros and Cons
yearly bonus, good benefits, work life
It can be challenging depending on the field

I worked there for twenty five years and took a severance package and ran. I had a child in college and was only 45 yrs old but I have never looked back. Leadership, if that’s what you want to call it, is horrible. Employees are looked at as unwanted but necessary tools that are disposable at any time. Your popularity is your survival. Don’t fall out of the inner circle.
Pros and Cons
Good pay and benefits
High stress and no work-life balance

I started in Customer Care as a call center rep, helping solve problems. These varied from billing problems and how to operate my phone .
Things changed and we had to sell products and services. And there was a quota
I finally moved to Training as a Senior Trainer. Remained there 10 years.
During that time, Verizon became a technical data company.
I spent 17 years with the company
Pros and Cons
Great training ; good salary; shift work allowing appointments

Sales Manager
July 15, 2021
The pay is good, but not that good. They constantly change sales quotas to make sure you don't make too much by the end of the year. The pressure in retail sales is ridiculous, although the pay is decent, it is not worth it.Cheaters get rewarded and the only way to move up is by brown nosing and making "connections." You are just a number and easily replaceable. They don't care about work life balance, you have to go through hoops to get some time off. Customers are horrible. They are all entitled and if they complain enough they get whatever they want, whatever. Per the company, employees have to endure any and all abuse. District managers and above are all over paid, worthless, tyrants. All they do is complain and enforce unreasonable metrics without actually teaching how it can be done. Corporate visits are a big deal because all they do is nit pick, and make a huge deal of minor stuff. Shane Scoville would make managers go pick trash from the parking lot! Do not work here.
Pros and Cons
Commission with base pay, but it's capped.
Anything and everything you can think of. As a kid I worked fast food and Verizon is a worse place

Several positions indicating ''Mgt. Suprt''-- Phone operator, a corp'te refr-ce ctr, copy room
Arlington, VA - June 13, 2021
I appreciated the benefits, seemed willing to keep me even if corrections . There was very little said as to the quality of my work, although my clients in the firm really did speak well of me. Verizon was often tense, as to the manager of different locations. Seemed overlooked, even taken for granted. If they could think of something wrong, BOOM ! Smart comments would fly. Once a woman I worked with was very aggressive with me, and the boss in as much , BLAMED IT ME ! TOO, simply for being involved. Often cutting remarks, not much for encouragement. Difficult to make an impression so as to benefit everybody. Not much to say for encouraging employees to advance with the organizaton.
Pros and Cons
Benefits, 5 weeks of vacation annually, several people I worked with were fine.
Exaggerations what writing a low evaluations. Rather punishing often without a reason.

Consultant Accounting
Lake Mary, FL - May 20, 2021
Overall, I enjoyed many years at Verizon. I and other veterans of Verizon were asked to relocate to Lake Mary FL. Verizon took care of us nicely for the relocation. It was agreed that I would help the first year of new employees then be re-assigned to another group. The first year was fine and then 25% of the group resigned and after the 2nd year over 70% resigned. The veterans were asked to do more than everyone else. To disguise the high turnover, management decided to make a new rule that you had to leave your group after 2 years. Great pressure was put on me and the 2nd oldest member at this time. 2 previous older employees resigned because of the high pressure. I made a few complaints to HR, but they only went back to the Director or Manager of the group to decide if there was a problem. Of course, no problem whatsoever. I understand the cost savings aspect of things but to use people is shameful.
Pros and Cons
Great experience
False claims of ethics

Network Service Coordinator
Irvington, NJ - May 17, 2021
I started as a records clerk and later was promoted to Network Service Coordinator. The pay was excellent. For a Communication company, management didn't communicate very well when the company was changing directions & needed to downsize. They offered a buy-out package which felt like being paid to get let go. I took the money, so I wouldn't get fired after 12 years. They didn't analyze performance records, or do reverse seniority. It was hard at the time, but I found a new opportunity. life goes on....
Pros and Cons
excellent pay and benefits, met a lot of nice people who were helpful
it was hard to take off to actually use the medical benefits, some managers showed favoritism
