About Vice President OF Development

What does a Vice President OF Development do?

In the role of Vice President of Development, we oversee and manage a nonprofit organization’s fundraising and development strategy. We support the Executive Director's (ED) fundraising and development activities. Reporting to the ED, we are a key leadership team member in making strategic decisions. We also forge new relationships to build the organization’s visibility and impact. Moreover, we expand and diversify the donor pipeline and secure funding for new initiatives. It is our responsibility to manage the development staff. As Vice Presidents of Development, we take part in leadership team discussions and Board of Directors' decisions.

Core tasks:

  • develop and implement a fundraising plan with an appropriate budget
  • provide analysis and reporting on the performance of fundraising against goals and strategic plan
  • identify new opportunities to expand organizational funding
  • build a branding strategy that supports fundraising and program effort
  • maintain and update organizational brand standards
  • communicate and enforce the organization’s values, policies, guidelines, and practices
  • purchase necessary outside resources for the execution of fundraising efforts
  • ensure adherence to organizational policies and procedures
  • create and implement a donor relations plan
  • foster positive relationship with donors
  • manage donor and fundraising events
