The ideal candidate is a highly driven, cross-functional leader with a proven product development and technical leadership record. The role requires a highly motivated, business savvy and customer-centric leader who thrives in a challenging and regularly evolving environment.
The PMOL is a critical member of the IDS R&D Leadership Team. The PMOL leads an organization of Project and Program leaders with a strong influencing role over all new product development activities, portfolio mix, and product development initiatives. The PMOL collaborates closely with his/her commercial colleagues to deliver innovative solutions that support IDS business growth objectives. The PMOL oversees successful execution of a portfolio including roughly 40 major projects annually, spanning all phases of the Global Product Development Systems (GPDS phase gate process). The PMOL is expected to be very hands-on when required, while also having the skills required to evaluate and develop strong Program Leaders on his or her team with capabilities that align to the strategy. The PMOL has the following direct reports: Microbiology Laboratory Solution PMO Leader, Molecular Laboratory Solution PMO Leader, Point of Care Solution PMO Leader, Sample Management PMO Leader, and GPDS Leader.
Devises and executes a comprehensive product delivery strategy that is rooted in market opportunities and customer needs aligning to the companys strategic goals and product roadmaps.
Provides consultation to functional leaders across the IDS portfolio.
Ensures alignment of product value proposition, program scope, and strategic business objectives across the entire portfolio. Senses and manages program and solution interdependencies. Accountable for overall solution/products ability to meet commercial success.
Ensures effective delivery of our portfolio and product roadmap, managing change effectively, providing transparency of portfolio health via Key Delivery Goals (KDG) reporting and other communications. Communicates program updates to functional management and executive Leadership.
Collaborates with business stakeholders and technology leaders to understand their strategic portfolio and business goals and translate those into actionable plans.
Demonstrates best in class program management practices and drive those practices within all active programs. Mentors Project/Program Leaders on program management best practices. Leads, directs, coaches, and mentors Project/Program Leaders to maximize project success. Provides meaningful and significant feedback to functional Leader regarding the performance of Program members.
Drives cross-functional planning and effective execution of programs by coaching program managers through the development and monitoring of fully integrated, cross-functional, timelines and budgets.
Owns the Phase Gate GPDS process for the DS organization. Continuously improves PMO processes, tools, metrics, and policies ensuring they meet customer needs and drive productivity, quality and business success.
In partnership with Finance and Business Platform Leaders, he/she orchestrates and leads project cost accounting, resource estimates and budget resolution across the business.
Manages communication of product development portfolio status to Corporate Research and Development.
Education and Experience
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical field and a minimum of 15 years relevant experience in leading successful cross functional teams in new product development/program management in a matrix organization.
5 or more years leading a R&D functional or Program Office highly preferred
Experience in Medical Technology industries developing electromechanical / software / consumable / reagent systems is preferred
MBA strongly preferred
PMP certification is preferred
Ability to envision future state business services/processes and to construct roadmaps representing evolution from current to future state
Proven understanding of how to manage a PMO Department, recruit, develop, coach and retain top talent for the department with solid knowledge of PMO concepts and ability to drive projects to completion
A proven track record of executing of all aspects of product development including requirements, design, development, verification and validation as well as other aspects (e.g. performance, security, usability, scalability, install-ability, supportability) relevant to the final commercialized product and overall solution
Prior experience successfully managing teams within a matrix model including functional and geographic dimensions, ensuring good collaboration and coordination between multiple stakeholders
Success record in delivering internal and customer-facing programs on time with high quality standards
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and resolve complex issues while obtaining buy-in cross functional stakeholder
Knowledge of the life sciences industry, its products, services and major business processes including electro-mechanical systems with reagent consumables. Knowledge of clinical laboratory practices preferred.
