Job DescriptionDescription:POSITION NOTICEVisiting Associate Director for Entrepreneurial EducationAcademy for Entrepreneurial LeadershipCollege of BusinessUniversity of Illinois at Urbana-ChampaignExtended 9/5/17Mission of the Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership:The Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership exists to 1) provide transformational learning opportunities for students to put their ideas into the world, 2) broaden opportunities for entrepreneurial action and learning for all students, and 3) be a leader in entrepreneurship research with a focus on design, subsistence, social innovation, and entrepreneurship education.History and context:The Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership was created in 2004 as a College of Business-supported entity to achieve a radical goal: infusing entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial thinking across every academic discipline of the University of Illinois-in curriculum development, in research, in economic development, and in public engagement. This initial work was enabled by a $4.5M grant from the Kauffman Foundation. Most prominently, the Academy created the Faculty Fellows Program across the Urbana-Champaign campus, providing support to 38 faculty to create 60+ courses with entrepreneurship foci. These courses are taken by approximately 8,000 students per year, and have supported generations of entrepreneurial students. These students have in turn helped design, run, and make successful a host of Academy-supported programs for entrepreneurial learning: venture competitions, pitch days, hackathons, student organizations, and more, which have helped propel UIUC into the top 10 educational institutions in the world for producing venture capital backed entrepreneurs. In the last three years, AEL has undergone a renaissance, attracting new staff and resources as it fills a new set of critical gaps in entrepreneurship on behalf of the University's students and broader community. The Academy now 1) offers award-winning capstone entrepreneurship education experiences like the award-winning iVenture Accelerator, EntreCORPS consulting for startups, and Entrepreneurs Without Borders, 2) just finished conducting a Kauffman Foundation-funded entrepreneurship education inventory of 4,000 higher educational institutions in the United States, and 3) is aggressively linking and collaborating with all of the University of Illinois' entrepreneurship units together to create a more cohesive, unified ecosystem.Building on this momentum, the Academy is ready act and build decisively to capitalize on future opportunities to strengthen the Academy, the College of Business, and opportunities for students-all of which enhance the University of Illinois entrepreneurship brand and to create and retain talent in Illinois.
