Visiting Research Specialist: Social Service Program

The Center for Literacy at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for a Visiting Research Specialist: Social Service Program. The Center implements research based programs needed in Chicago communities. This position will lead the design, development and implementation of research-based educational and social work related programs to assure high-quality programming for the Chicago early learning families served by the Center.�
Primary responsibilities include:
Research to understand parent/family needs and resources across the city;�
evaluating research-based materials and developing programs, assessing needs at Head Start partner sites, consulting with faculty and external partners to develop research proposals to expand center services;�
develop trainings and materials to link family support workers to adult education career transition services;
supervise lower level staff including parent resource trainers, leads, graduate assistants and volunteers assigned to support the program; analyzing data to assess participant progress;�
recommending program modifications to assure progress towards meeting program goals and objectives;�
Contribute material, papers for presentations and to be used in grant submissions;�
attend meetings that contribute to program development.�
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in social science or related field required; Master's degree preferred.�
Knowledge of research methods, principles and concepts; including a minimum of three years of experience in the field.

Visit individuals in homes or attend group meetings to provide information on agency services, requirements, or procedures.
Interview individuals or family members to compile information on social, educational, criminal, institutional, or drug history.
Clerical — Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Psychology — Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
Sociology and Anthropology — Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, cultures and their history and origins.
