What does a VP Pharmacy do?

As VP Pharmacies, we are responsible for providing the organization with pharmacy’s unique clinical and business perspectives in discussions and decisions related to changes in the medication management system. We also have to lead evidence-based clinical decision-making about drug use, control pharmaceutical expenses while maximizing patient benefit through the formulary system. We assess the ever-changing healthcare environment for emerging trends that will influence the pharmacy enterprise.

Core tasks:

  • improving quality, safety, the patient’s experience, patient access to quality healthcare across the continuum of care
  • participating as the interdisciplinary team members who are responsible for patients’ medication-related outcomes
  • providing leadership at the organizational level regarding planning, implementing, and maintaining information systems that support patient care
  • managing the health-system pharmacy’s financial performance within the context of the broader health system
