I loved working at Walgreens. I got to see so many different things working in the insurance and risk department. My job was to help put Walgreen store back together again when they were damaged or robbed it was very exciting and I enjoyed it a great deal! My boss always told me I was his favorite.

Pros and Cons
They had a small Walgreens store within the complex. I worked on both sides of Lake Cook Road

I came from working at CVS in the same position, Walgreens requires you to be a pharmacy tech unlike CVS does.. which is great if you're looking for growth, but that wasn't what I was looking for. My store was very small so I have a feeling I would have had a better/different experience in a bigger environment.. which is what I'm now looking for in my next position.

Pros and Cons
Decent flexibility, decent pay, inclusive
few incentives, coupon policy constantly confusing customers

I loved my job, bring the first impression customers receive upon store entry! Computer training was easy to accomplish and time was certainly given to complete assigned tasks.

Pros and Cons
Variable shifts, satisfactory uniform, no position was too taxing: mentally or physically.
Not all employees would complete their tasks. Which fell on the next shift to complete.

Your calls are very short but back to back. You literally take over 100 calls a day non stop. Not even a moment in between to catch your breath. When you come in you have to find a seat to work, hard to find a manager if you need help. You literally have to walk across the floor to find help. It’s a miserable, low paying place to work for.

VTO, Easy job to learn

I’ve been employed 8month as a full time tech and have only worked the max of 20 hours a week. Talking to management is a waste as they’ll make things sound good but no real solution to the problem. As a full time employee.. systems says otherwise so I’m not eligible for any sick or vacation time. Schedule is ran based on hours of senior tech if they want full time they get it and if not we’ll one of us newer ones are in luck hopefully because you’ll look up and someone else from another location has gotten hours to fill in for someone.. Makes sense? I know it doesn’t.

I started working at Walgreens in 2020, and was welcomed into a retail scenario that I honestly do not wish on anyone. I personally think that retail is a great beginning for everyone, where you can learn and build many skills. Unfortunately the retail industry at this time is lacking qualified and dedicated labor, leaving the ones who do show up for work stretched thin and quickly burnt out. However, I will admit that corporate America and the current economic situation are mostly to blame for the severe lack of labor. If retail companies were willing to pay according to the rising inflation and focus on employee retention with compatible pay and growth incentives, I do believe we would see a much different generation of dedicated and satisfied retail workers. I personally loved my job, and all that I learned, and miss serving excellent customer service for those who truly need and deserve it, but it is currently not feasible on a work life balance perspective

The location has a great pharmacist and some of my former coworkers were amazing. After this sexual harassment issue happened with an extern, the company completely dropped the ball and the rxom of that location downplayed it even though she claimed it happened to her too. Corporate didn’t do anything about it. They pay us peanuts and show they don’t care shot our well being either. I was truly disappointed in this company and the lack of action from management.

Working at Walgreens completely annihilated my mental health, and I watched it do the same to many of my peers. I don’t have any former coworkers I know who stayed and aren’t on antidepressants. Unrealistic expectations for workload, intentionally dangerously low staffing levels, no support from upper management. I was once asked why my productivity was so much lower when I was working a 12 hour shift and at the time had no lunch breaks and no other pharmacist. Really? Ended up with long-term bladder problems because of the lack of breaks and insufficient overlap so I couldn’t run to the restroom.

Company is very profit driven and doesn’t care about employees or patients, you can see that in the long lines, the fact the in states where breaks weren’t mandated by law, pharmacists didn’t use to take breaks no matter how long they work, if you’re a floater you can expect to know if you’re working the morning of, so say good bye to personal plans, and that’s not all there is of course. Only a considers option for fresh out of school pharmacists while looking for other opportunities.

Pros and Cons
Doesn’t require prior experience
Lack of pharmacy support staff, overworked, underpaid compared to competitors, not much growth

Some employees - former and current - will tell you that is opportunity for avancement, decent pay and managers - district and otherwise - who are good. That was not my experience and every person in management who has stayed admits it's because they've put in so much time that they're waiting for further advancement. And no other reason. Walgreens doesn't have great pros.

iworked for Walgreens for almost 19 years. I left as a store manager. It was a completely different company from when I started. By the time I left, they had cut the budgets so much that you couldn't really even staff the store. If someone called out it was basically up to me as the SM to cover it but since I was salary I didn't get compensated for it. I would often open the store and have to close the store.

Be ware that small companies like Walgreens will most definitely find or fabricate ANY reason that they want, if/when they decide to get rid of you. The pay is unequal, and based only on whichever amount the hiring manager thinks that you're worth. They do not appreciate honest & hard working employees, and they will work you to the bone, and then throw you away.

Pros and Cons
Not being unemployed.
Every stereotype about retail.

I worked here for 9 months, I was attacked by a thief and management did nothing to help me. Their disability is not paid and I was basically left on ice until they decided to let me go without so much as a call or SMS.

Pros and Cons
Employee day is ok
They do not care about their employees

I began working @ Walgreen's around the beginning of Covid, just wanted to work PT and help my local community out during Covid. They began using all new online shopping technology. I felt like I was being pressured to begin learning to use a small hand held smart phone like merchandise tool. Like I said I am visually impaired so I made it clear that I was a cashier not a merchandise assistant. The new kids were great with the small device so all worked out. Then newbie got promoted and began reminding me of the routine that I had for the last 2 yrs. Another new employee tried to make me enter the dark warehouse to pull the door down which should have been locked right after the last delivery. Alcohol was stored there so floor associates needed to lock that door early. They tried to put this duty on me at store close, I refused and recently quit due to similar scenarios.

Pros and Cons
A Great Place to Work for Young People Comfortable with Small Hand Held Technical Devices
Don't Apply if you only want to do cashier duties, you will do everything can be Overwhelming too

I started pay at 11.50........ $11.50 for a job that COMPLETELY is needed to run a pharmacy. I then got "nationally certified" .... for a $1 raise. Then got a yearly raise, and next I went to specialty.....no raise for that either. So 4 years later i am sitting at $17.30 and they are TRYING to give me a yearly raise of 0.30 cents. Walgreens next decided to raise the starting wage to $15.50... what???? SO basic math skills lead a brand new tech to be making more than i do. I had to go through HR which then left me at $20.13. I am the most loyal worker, I am the greatest people person... and I can hardly pay bills working 40+ hours. THEN I was fired for a third tardy.... meanwhile THEY HAVE SO MANY STORES CLOSED DOWN DUE TO NOT HAVING TECHNICIANS!!!!! ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE JOB
